Happy Valentine’s Day to All My Single Pringles! (And Couples, Too, I Guess…)

Written by:

Okay, folks, let’s talk about February 14th.  The day the world explodes in a flurry of pink and red, teddy bears clutch heart-shaped boxes of questionable chocolates, and suddenly everyone is an expert on romance. Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day!  A day designed to make you feel either incredibly loved-up or… well, let’s just say “acutely aware of your singleness.”

Now, I get it.  If you’re coupled up, Valentine’s Day can be fun.  Dinner reservations, maybe some flowers, the strategic gifting of lingerie that you also enjoy – all good stuff.  But what about everyone else? The ones who are rocking the solo journey, the ones who are currently swiping through dating apps with the enthusiasm of someone cleaning a particularly nasty spill?  Do they just curl up in a ball and wait for February 15th to arrive, when the discounted candy goes on sale?
Absolutely not!

Listen, I’m here to tell you that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a day of romantic pressure. It doesn’t have to be about couples.  It can be about… YOU!  Think of it as National Treat Yo’ Self Day, Part Deux (because, let’s be honest, we should be doing that more than once a year).

So, you’re single on Valentine’s Day?  Fantastic!  Here’s your battle plan for conquering Cupid’s commercialized kingdom:

1. Embrace the Cheese:  Yes, the cheesy decorations are everywhere.  Instead of cringing, lean into it!  Buy yourself a ridiculous heart-shaped pizza.  Get a giant teddy bear and name him Reginald.  He won’t judge you for eating the entire pizza.

2. Galentine’s/Palentine’s Power: Gather your single friends!  Have a party!  Bake cookies!  Watch terrible rom-coms and make fun of them!  The best way to combat the pressure of romantic love is with the power of platonic love (and maybe some wine).

3. Treat Yourself Like Royalty:  That fancy restaurant you always wanted to try but felt weird going to alone?  Go!  Order the lobster.  Have dessert.  Wear that outfit that makes you feel amazing.  You deserve it!

4. Meet Someone New (Maybe?):  Okay, no pressure here.  But if you’re feeling adventurous, why not strike up a conversation with someone else who’s clearly decided to dine solo?  You never know what might happen!  (Worst case scenario, you have a funny story to tell your friends later.)

5. Remember the Real Meaning (Kinda):  Let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day is a holiday invented by greeting card companies and chocolate manufacturers.  It’s about consumerism, not necessarily true love.  So, don’t let the marketing get you down.

And finally, from me to you, Happy Valentine’s Day!  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a wife to shop for.  A new plant and a bottle of wine sound good, right?  (Reginald the teddy bear is already taken care of.)
