Friday the 13th: Luck, Love, and why I’m Not as Old as that Guy!

Written by:

Some people see Friday the 13th on the calendar and immediately want to hide under the covers. They’re worried about black cats, broken mirrors, or perhaps a guy in a hockey mask ruining their weekend. There’s actually a fancy word for it—paraskevidekatriaphobia—but let’s be honest, that just sounds like something you’d catch if you didn’t wash your hands.
While the superstitious are busy dodging ladders, I’m over here cracking open a beer, and of course some Vodka (Shout out to Flyte Vodka). Why? Because today is my birthday, and in my book, Friday the 13th is the luckiest day on the planet!

Feeling the Love (and the Luck)
First off, a massive thank you to everyone who has reached out today. Whether you sent a text, tagged me on social media, or caught me in person to remind me I’m another year older—thank you! Your kind words and well-wishes truly make this “unlucky” day feel like a jackpot.

The “Mid-50s” Reality Check
I’ll admit, hitting my mid-50s comes with some… unique perspective. I’ve reached the age where “happy hour” is a nap, and my idea of a “wild night” is finishing a movie without falling asleep on the couch.

I’m definitely not as agile as I was at 25. Back then, I could jump out of bed; now, I have to negotiate with my knees for about ten minutes before they agree to support my weight. But even if I can’t do everything I used to, I’m determined to make the most out of every single day.

The Best Birthday Gift? My Wife’s Eyesight.
My wife gave me the ultimate confidence boost the other day. We saw someone out in public who we both pegged as being significantly older than me. As it turns out, through the grapevine, and because it was their birthday, we found out they are actually five years younger than I am!

My wife leaned over and whispered, “See? You don’t look nearly as old as he does.” Bless her heart. That’s what wives are for—providing that perfect blend of love and slightly biased reality. I’ll take it!

From Bad Luck to True Love
I might have missed being a “Valentine’s Baby” by a mere few hours, but I’m not complaining. Having a birthday today means the party doesn’t stop. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and I get to spend it with my favorite person and my forever Valentine—my wife Tina.

It’s going to be a full weekend of celebration, drinks, food (maybe a blizzard from DQ), and probably some Tylenol & Ibuprofen for those 25-year-old knees.
Luck, love, and a wife who thinks I’m holding up well? I’d say this Friday the 13th is the best one yet.

Happy Friday, everyone—stay lucky!
